Week 1: Arrival & Day 1

We made it to Sandusky!

After an easy trip with no issues (and World Cup soccer action!) from Indy, we arrived to First Presbyterian Church in Sandusky just after 7 p.m. to the sounds of gulls overhead. There was a decent view...

This morning we went to the Nehemiah Center, which is about a mile away from where we are staying for the week.  What used to be an old school building was bought years ago at auction for $5, and now it's used to enrich the lives of kids in the local community.

During the school year, the Nehemiah Center has after school programs that include an evening meal for kids from kindergarten to 8th grade. During the summer, they have summer day programs for kids of the same age. Today, we got to work around the grounds inside and out to help clean up the property. Tomorrow, we'll head back and get to hang out with the kids!

We cleaned three floors of rooms and floors and windows, we swept and mopped staircases and hallways and a gymnasium, and we weeded and mowed and trimmed all around the spacious outdoor areas on the grounds.

We were all worn out by the time we returned to the church this afternoon, so we took some time to relax (and get a few short naps in for some of us) and now we're off to have dinner and do small groups and worship. We've had an amazing start to our trip, and we're excited to head into day two! Thank you for praying for us along the way, we'll be back soon to share more of our adventure.
